OLD-FASHIONED VALUES: Allen and Violet have obviously mastered the art of living, and have decided what is truly important to them. Their Awesome generosity and love for one another was far bigger than the mountain of money they would enjoy giving away, and now that the money is gone, their priceless, inspiring story lives on. As does their love. Way to go!
EXTREME LUCK & GENEROSITY: A couple from Nova Scotia, Canada, won $11.3 million in the lottery, put about a quarter million away for a rainy day, and promptly gifted the rest to family members, the local fire department, churches, cemeteries, the Red Cross, Salvation Army, hospitals and a host of other groups they decided on together.
PINCHING PENNIES: Proud country folk, The Nova Scotia couple had always saved up the money that Allen made as a welder and Violet made in retail. Now retired, Violet Large was undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer when they hit the big one.
CAN’T BUY ME LOVE: “It made us feel good,” Violet told the Chronicle Herald. “And there’s so much good being done with that money.” And they both agree that “money can’t buy health or happiness.” To them the money was nothing. “We have each other.” And so they gave most of it away.
HONORING HIS WIFE: Violet has since passed away, but Allen Large continues to honor his wife’s memory, buying lottery tickets every week. “We always bought tickets. Two days before she passed away, she said, ‘Don’t forget my tickets.’ So every week, I buy her tickets. “
LIVE AND LEARN: The Large’s awesome windfall has not been without it’s pitfalls, and Mr. Large says that if he ever wins again, he plans to avoid all the long-lost relatives, hassles and scams by simply giving it ALL away.

LotteryPost: “In My opinion these people are content with their lives and giving away the money gave them the ultimate pleasure….It was a fantastic thing they did. I strongly believe their age and life experiences had allot to do with their decision. We all walk different roads, Let’s just pray that at that age we all will be in a position to do for others and help others the same as they did. God bless their kind Souls.” – CAL-LottoPlayer
Safe Haven: “That’s honestly the best thing I’ve heard all week. I love it when people do wonderful things to prove that humanity is still decent. You usually think of lottery winners and assume they’ll blow it all on drugs and worthless crap, but this couple proves that that’s not always true. What lovely people.” –
Lunatic Outpost: “These two have something together worth way more than the money. What a nice thing for them to do. Funny how you find out you have friends you never knew you had before coming into money.” – Blackbird
